Obituary

Anna Altman (1954 1999)

Anna Altman died on Saturday 24th July, 1999. She had been suffering from a cancer since 1993. Funeral Services were held in Warsaw in September 1999. Anna was an Assistant Professor at the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She had a broad interest in optimization and applied mathematics. She worked on the theory and implementations of interior point methods for linear programming [7,8] and convex quadratic programming [4,5,9]. She applied these methods to solve several reallife problems [3,6]. She was also interested in the use of interior point methods in nondifferentiable optimization [1,2,10].
Anna was the editor of Advanced Modeling and Optimization - An Electronic International Journal, and served as a referee in many Polish and international journals. She was a dedicated teacher. Anna was an enthusiastic countryside walker. She used to walk tens of kilometers during the weekend. This year when the cancer weakened her she limited her walks to woods near Warsaw. Anna was dedicated to her work, family, and friends. She was a good friend I will miss.
